project exploration

beauty in architecture

When thinking about what type of project I wanted to purusue, I knew for sure that I wanted to start out with something smaller scale. I also had an idea of using books in some unique way, which also incorporated by idea of beauty in architecture: Old vs. New. I then came up with concept for a side table. I would use a reclaimed transom window for a tabletop, covered with a new piece of plexiglass for added depth. The structure will be composed of slabs of reclaimed barn wood. Between two pieces of the wood are stacked paperback books, acting as bricks in a building and as a structural element. Further, bronze pipes will provide stability in the form of legs. While the drawing (seen above) may be difficult to understand, this table is a simple representation and manifestation of my concept of beauty in architecture.
